| OPENING OF THE SCHOOL JULY 12, 1911
|
Welcome to the website of Hamilton Boys' High School Old Boys' Association.
This website was originally set up to help celebrate the 50th Jubilee of Hamilton Boys' High School on 23rd & 24th October 2005.
Funds raised from that event have now been put to use to continue this website for the enjoyment of past pupils, staff and friends of the Hamilton Boys' High School and that of our parent school, Hamilton High School.
Following the success of the the joint 50th Jubilee of HBHS & HGHS which was enjoyed by a large number of past pupils from HHS it was decided to invite the HHS community to come together again to celebrate the original Hamilton High School's 95th anniversary on 14th October 2006.
Our next reunion for both Hamilton Boys High School, Hamilon Girls High School and Hamilton High School will be the reunion of all reunions, the Centenary of the our original ' parent ' school , Hamilton High School.
The Centennial reunion committee has now confirmed a date of March 17-20, 2011 in order not to clash with Easter, school holidays or V8 races.
It may seem a long time until we all get together again but make sure your first diary entry for 2011 is our CENTENARY REUNION.
Please use the features of this website to help the Old Boys' Association update its database.

CHAMPION ROWER, RUGBY TALENT DIES SUDDENLY, AGED 20
It is with deep regret we record the passing of one of our recent rowing stars, Tyler Sherman, who died of natural causes on May 4th.
Originally from Wanganui he was a member of the gold medal winning eight at the junior World Champs held in Amsterdam in 2006.
In 2007 he moved to Hamilton to join HBHS and was a member of the school's winning Maadi Cup crew that year before joining the NZ U19 crew to pick up the silver medal at the junior World Champs in Beijing.
In 2008 he was a member of the NZ U23 at the U23 World Champs which missed out on a place in the A final.
Tyler had made the decision to switch from rowing to rugby and was in the Waikato Rugby Union academy, playing his club rugby for Fraser- Tech senior B as a lock.
The HBHS community extend our sympathy and condolences to the Sherman family as we share their loss of one of our members taken far too soon.

CHIEFS REGION PLAY-OFF
Having successfully defended their Super 8 title HBHS sought to retain their Chiefs region title so that they could proceed to the NZ Secondary Schools Champs.
On Saturday 21st August they ventured to Rotorua Boys High. Deep into the 2nd half the teams were locked at 11 all but a long range drop kick from 40m by the Rotorua 1st 5/8 secured them the win.
Rotorua then ventured to Wesley the following Wednesday and despite securing a late try which brought them a bonus point went down 19-12.
Wesley travelled to Hamilton on Saturday 28th August for the last round robin game which was the Sky TV Rugby Channel's featured game. There were several permutations as to what HBHS needed to do to become the Chiefs champions but the reality was 4 tries and a win was required.
Wesley started strongly and were denied an early try when the attacker was turned on his back and was unable to ground the ball. HBHS quickly settled down and scored 3 tries v 1 against to lead 19-5 coming up to the break. A golden chance for a 4th bonus point try before half-time was missed when the ball was spilled over the try-line. HBHS found the Wesley defence more resolute in the 2nd half as they sought to secure a 4th try. An early penalty in the 2nd half was taken to extend the lead to 22-5 but it wasn't until the last 10 minutes that HBHS obtained the try they were looking for after a sustained forward drive. The visitors scored a fine consolation try to complete the game and give HBHS the win 27-12 and Chiefs champions status. HBHS now proceed to the NZSS Champs to be held at Rotorua Boys HIgh from Friday 3rd September.

HBHS FOOTBALL 1ST X1 CHAMPIONS FOR A DECADE
Congratulations to our 1st XI on another stellar season having won the Super 8 tournament and now having secured the Waikato Secondary Schools Championship for the 10th year in a row. Their final game of the season against St Pauls resulted in a 2-2 draw which was sufficient to retain their crown. A decade at the top in any sport is a meritorious achievement particularly with ever changing personnel. A big accolade to all players and coaching staff involved.
